- How do I get MS Project to stabilize? It keeps crashing, does not - Microsoft Community

If not, do so and let us know if that fixes your problem. In reply to Rod Gill's post on July 13, Rod I have just returned from vacation.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have Win 10, with auto-updates turned on. I checked the revision of MS Office , as I grabbed the Office SP1 and installed anyway. Still no success. Office Version remained the same. I would love to solve this problem so I can retire my old laptop. Julie Sheets MVP. In reply to Dale Giesbrecht's post on July 27, So I killed that installation, and installing a fresh 64 bit installation of Office.

So far it looks like that is what it is, weird, very weird as the laptop was installed off the same disk, and it is the 64 bit on it. I have the same question 1. Report abuse. Details required :. Cancel Submit. Mitch H. Microsoft Agent. Hi Jake, To address your concern, provide the answers to the following: What is the error message you're receiving when installation fails?

What is the exact Office you're installing? Have you downloaded Visio and Access on the same source as where you've downloaded Project Professional? We'll be waiting for your response. Thank you. How satisfied are you with this reply?

Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. We had a formal training program for users. There was one person on the program that was responsible for managing the overall schedule and file structure. File corruption was not a problem. But again, before you can go forward, you need to back up, clear corruption for your existing files and then rebuild. There is no fix or shortcut. In reply to John - Project's post on January 12, Hello John! A couple of additional questions on how to proceed.

I am the main person responsible for the plans, but I have a jr project coordinator who would need access to make updates as well. I am thinking about creating a shared link on the network to my local so that he would be able to access these files. As far as disciplines and best practices, I have just recently completed Mastering MS Project training with New Horizons, I want to ensure that going forward I don't do anything to corrupt the files.

Do you have any reference documentation on said disciplines? I would open a new plan Insert sub-projects that are in master file, but uncheck the link to projects box, Save that with my back up name Do I have to be careful as to where I save these backups in relation to my live plans?

I thought you said the files were all on a network drive and it has to be that way to allow access for multiple users. As I stated earlier the best scenario for a linked structure is on a local drive but it you must work on a network, and I understand that , at least make sure all files AND whatever dynamic master you create are all in a single folder on that network drive. Working with a linked structure over a network increases the opportunity for corruption, but working with a linked structure residing in multiple folders on a network is a much worse scenario.

Given the single folder on the network approach your assistant only needs write access to that folder. Your IT department should be able to set the access levels such that you and your assistant have write access to all files in the folder but each user only has write access their individual project file in the folder. As far as written documentation for linked file best practices I don't know of any references documentation.

Based on our collective experience, myself and others who respond on Project forums have specifically mentioned the basic rules of working with linked structures. They are as stated in one of my responses above. As far as the discipline side of it, the most important best practice is to insure all users are trained on how to use Project and what they may and may not do with regard to their files in a linked environment e. If you do not see your language, it is because a hotfix is not available for that language. To use one of the hotfixes in this package, you do not have to make any changes to the registry. This hotfix contains only the files that you must have to resolve the issues that are listed in this article.

The global version of this hotfix package uses a Microsoft Windows Installer package to install the hotfix package. When you view the file information, the date is converted to local time. Project Professional Project Standard More The resource who owns the assignment where delay doesn't exist reports work and the status update is applied to the task. The other assignment still has no actual work.

As the project manager, you set the work value to zero on the assignment that has no actual work. In this situation, the actual start and actual finish dates are set on the assignment even though these dates weren't reported by the team member. Later, when the project manager adds work back to the assignment and tries to reschedule it, he fails. Because Project tells him that the change would change work entered by a team member. The team member opens their timesheet and enters multiple time-phased actual work values.

For example, 8h on the first day and 3h on the second day. The team member changes his mind and zeros out the last time-phased value. In this case, the 3h turns to 0h. The team member submits their timesheet and the status manager approves the update which is then applied to the project. When the task and assignment are viewed in Project Professional, the task ends on the second day and the assignment ends on the first day.

The expectation is that the task ends at the same time as the assignment. Assume that you change the name of the project summary task and save the project in Project on a computer that has Windows 8. When you open the project again, the name is reverted to the previous one. When you try to reset the work breakdown structure WBS for a selection of tasks, the whole project is updated instead.
